Vol. 32 Bladder Infection (UTI)

Bladder infection is common in females.
Because in females, the urethra is much shorter and closer to the anus than in males, bacteria can invade the bladder easily.
The symptoms progress in the order of frequent urination, painful urination, feeling of residual urine and blood in the urine.

In Oriental Medicine, a bladder infection is considered as being caused by the invasion of cold.
In general, it is recommended to drink a lot of water when you have a bladder infection, but in Oriental Medicine, drinking a lot of water is not appropriate because it makes the lower abdomen, including the bladder, colder.

gSo, what should I do?h

THE BEST THING TO DO IS:
Dry the leaves of the Daikon radish (2 Daikons), put them with a handful of sea salt in 1 gallon of water, decoct the water until it becomes dark brown, put the decocted soup in a tub which is big enough to put your hips in, make it about 113 degrees F (45 degrees C), soak just your hips (the water comes to below navel) and warm up.

In the case that you don't have leaves of Daikon, you can use scallions.
If the scallions are small and thin, use about 10 pieces.
If the scallions are big and long, use about 3 pieces.

In the case that you don't have either Daikon leaves or scallions, it is still effective to put in only sea salt.

If you tend to have a bladder infection, check the color of your urine.
If the color is thin, sometimes you eat too much of fruit.
If so, stop eating fruit and take more sea salt in your meals.
