Vol. 29 Joint Pain Part-I

Today I would like to talk about joint pain.
When you think about joints, there are various joints such as knees, ankles, elbows and shoulders etc.
What do you do when you have joint pain?
You do massage, move the joint, ice the joint… those kinds of things, right?
Please listen to me carefully.
These are what you should not do when you have joint pain.
Don't misunderstand.
They are WHAT YOU SHOULD NOT DO.
They make the healing slower or can make the condition worse.

Now I would like to talk about two things.
One is about what you should not do.
Another is about what you should do.
This time I will talk about WHAT YOU SHOULD NOT DO first.

1. Don't take pain killers!

When you have pain, that is because the blood gathers where you have a problem, but the pain killers stop the blood flow to the diseased area. In the case that you have very strong pain, it is all right to take pain killers temporarily, but if you continuously use them, blood will not get to the diseased area, leading to making the area cold and the symptom worse.

2. Don't do the movement that causes pain!

There are many people who move the joint in the way which causes pain, saying that it is painful. This also makes the symptoms worse. So does massaging this area.

3. Don't ice!

There are people who ice the painful area, but this stops blood circulation just like pain killers do. You should never use ice except in the case of very strong pain.

The next time I will talk about what is effective for joint pain.
