Today we discuss the Liver.
The Liver stores the Blood. When we are up, Blood circulates within the body and distributes nutrition all over, but at night this changes. Only one third of the Blood circulates while two thirds of it comes back to the Liver and detoxification is carried out. Since detoxification is done between 1 AM and 3 AM, if you are not sleeping at that time, the Liver can not work very well, and toxins remain in the body, sometimes resulting in serious diseases.
The Liver controls the tendons and sinews.
When you move the tendons and sinews, it is necessary that Ki and Blood
gather in that area, but if there is a lack of flow of Ki and Blood, cramps
happen. This is caused by the weakness of the Liver. When you start to
move, you feel pain and after moving a little bit, it becomes easier, but
basically since there is a lack of Ki and Blood, if you continue to move,
it becomes painful again.
Also, asthma attacks which happen at midnight, are caused by tightness
in the bronchioles, so it is important to flush out stagnated Liver energy,
leading to the relaxation of the bronchioles. When we think about the case
of urinary incontinence of children, if they wet their pants just after
starting to play during daytime, this is caused by the tightness of the
muscles, so in this case there is stagnation of Liver energy. On the contrary,
if they wet their pants while sleeping at night, this is caused by the
looseness of muscles, so there is weakness of Liver energy.
