Vol. 19 Visible and Invisible Energy
|
Our body is moved by 2 kinds of energy. One is gKih and another is gBloodh.
gKih is something unique to Oriental medicine, and gBloodh is something
close to what we know as blood. gKih is called gQih in Chinese. Lack or
stagnation of these 2 kinds of energy causes various diseases.
We usually receive nutrition from eating a variety of food. Thinking about it in the way of Oriental medicine, we eat food, it is digested in the stomach, and the nutrition is absorbed in the small intestines. This absorbed nutrition goes to the heart and is mixed with energy taken in from breathing. The mixture of energy and nutrition forms what we know as red gBloodh. On the other hand, what is left over goes from the small intestine to the large intestine. Energy which is absorbed from dietary fiber in these left overs goes to the heart, becoming gKih, invisible energy.
gBloodh circulates in the blood vessels and gives nutrition to the whole body. gKih warms the body and protects the body from viruses and other external pathogens. In Western medicine, dietary fiber is regarded as just a cleaner of a ditch to make bowel movements better, but in Eastern medicine, dietary fiber is regarded as having very strong yang energy. It is considered very important material that generates heat to maintain body temperature. In addition, dietary fiber has a function that absorbs toxins and excretes them with the movement of stools.
